AVAILABILITY
To get cast for a leading role (Lubbock County Five) you need to be available for shooting during the month of June. We’ll schedule shoots as best we can, especially the shots that require all five of you present. We’ll try to work around schedules, but we seriously need you to be pretty much wide open, schedulewise, for the month of June. We’ll try to do our shooting in the evenings as much as possible, but do look forward to one week of solid hardcore effort. We’ll figure out which week works best for everyone during the casting call event.
HOW IT WORKS
You’ll show up and hang around the Blue Light and enjoy live music and support the bartenders (especially if you aren’t drinking) because that’s what nice folks do. We’ll bring you to the back room where we’ll have a camera set up (for head shots) and a video camera set up (where you will read a few lines for us “in character.” )
EVERYONE will get a callback whether you land a leading role or not, BECAUSE: we’ll need lots of extras for the opening scenes, which we’ll shoot in a couple of weeks at……The Blue Light!!!!!
Also, everyone will get a callback because we appreciate EACH and EVERY one of you. By now if you haven’t figured this out, we can’t pay you anything; we are making this film out of our own pockets, from paycheck to paycheck. It’s the least we can do to thank you for exploring this opportunity with us!
CHARACTERS
Here are the characters we need to fill for the Lubbock County Five (working names, not final):
1. Male - Frank - star athlete, Mr. Popular, all-around all-american nice guy. A jock who isn’t dumb and isn’t a bully. Dating Liv. Is patient with her.
2. Male - Mark - down to earth, quiet, cowboy type. Likes the outdoors, uses three words where anyone else would need nine.
3. Female - Ginger - the sweetheart. Bakes cookies. Third wheel. Too oblivious and sweet to either notice or care.
4. Female - Liv - the princess. Has a MySpace that’s HER space. Dating Frank. Is demanding of him. Spoiled Dallas Daddy’s Girl.
5. Female - Shenandoah - borderline goth. Probably cut herself in high school. Carries secrets. Opens up to no one. Standoffish but kind.
Be aware that as these characters encounter scary vampirish terror, they will need to display a pretty convincing role. Girls, if you can cry on demand, that rocks. Guys, if you can break down the macho thing and show us honest to goodness 100% grade A TERROR, that would be great.
These roles with be very…taxing. We don’t have a huge budget for special effects or wild creature makeup, so we are going to be relying on YOUR talent to convey the fear, terror, pain, and overall wicked awesomeness associated with your vampirrific encounters.
EXTRAS
The opening scenes will be shot at the Blue Light, taking place on the weekend before Spring Break. We’ll need to PACK OUT the bar that night. So think about coming out, and think about getting your friends to come out. We’ll send you an email with the exact date. Shooting this scene is going to be our way of giving EVERYONE a chance to be in the film, whether you have acting talent or not.
Cause seriously, how hard is it to hang out with your friends and listen to a live band? Not very. So no matter what you signed up for on our website, you’ll want to come out for that.
There will also be a few scenes where we’ll need some people to get gloriously attacked by vampires. Be ready for that :)
THE SCRIPT
We’ve had a lot of requests for the script. We don’t really want to give it out just yet for a couple reasons:
1. It’s not done. Quite honestly, there are a lot of holes in the script, specifically related to location and character development. I’m doing this intentionally to work around people’s schedules, and to best accomodate the abilities of my cast.
2. It’s a secret. This is part one of what I hope will become a cult-classic trilogy (wishful thinking, I know). The script contains a lot of spoilers that would give away too much about my “vision” (haha, what a pretentious word) for the future films.
3. It’s not going to be that hard. We’ll do some rehearsals with the Lubbock County Five cast, but honestly, it’s going to be a lot of freaking out and screaming and running and biting and bleeding. It’s not like we’re filming a ROCKET LAUNCH, where every detail has to be perfect :)
BONUS PROJECTS
Even if you don’t get cast specifically for West Texas Vampires, we have a lot of ideas for short films and other projects and we would just LOVE to keep you in the loop. We’ll be setting up a website specifically to keep you connected and informed with all of our crazy ideas. In fact, since the first West Texas Vampires trailer was so successful, I’d like to shoot some more trailers for potential projects to see if we could get some other stuff OFF THE GROUND too!
